heard of the website before, so reviewing one of their products was something I had to do. I looked through their list of great Mother's Day gifts
I picked out the Salts of the World Test Tube Set because we've really gotten into healthy eating at my house, and I'm really enjoying cooking with fresh ingredients. It was filled with salts from places like the Island of Cyprus (black flake salt), Denmark (Viking Oak smoked salt) and Australia (Murray River Pink Flake salt). Displayed in a solid cedar rack, each tube is glass, keeping the salts fresh.
The salts and display also came with a card that let me know which salts matched with which types of meat,
and which salts were good for cooking vs. finishing off a dish. We decided to give the Viking Oak Smoked Mountain Salt from Denmark a try on some simple baked chicken tenderloins one night. I added the salt first to the tenderloins, and because the salt crystals were larger than regular salt crystals, and naturally colored brown, you could actually see the salt on the chicken. This helped out with spreading the salt evenly. I used less salt than I would have normal table salt just to see how it affected the taste.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the chicken had more flavor than I thought it would. I'll admit now, I was a skeptic. I figured salt is salt and it didn't really matter where in the world it came from, that it would season my food the same. I was wrong... very wrong. After using less of the Viking salt from Denmark than I would have normal salt, the chicken came out with more flavor than normal. I was instantly hooked on this stuff, and have used it in my daily cooking ever since.
